Hi! I’m Caleigh: a wife, mother, businesswoman(ish), and art-enthusiast.
I’m not a trained artist, nor am I an interior decorator. I am, however, an art collector who strongly believes that original art can breathe life into your space and change the entire atmosphere of your home in very positive ways. And it doesn’t have to be intimidating – or expensive!
I began collecting art in my 20’s, and I was drawn to one-of-a-kinds early on. At that time, I was a language arts teacher on a strict budget. So I learned quickly how to scope out “undiscovered” local geniuses to help me fill my walls and shelves with things that made my home feel uniquely me (and that made my endorphins kick in).
When I purchased my first home in my late 20’s, I made a decision then to invest in art instead of permanent fixtures in the home. My thought was, “I can move this art with me for the rest of my life. I can’t move these baseboards!” Fast-forward 25 years and 3 houses later, and I’ve been able to fill my forever home with original and special pieces that make my family happy and have a story to tell. Every guest who comes into my “gallery” asks about all my artwork. For someone who hates small talk but loves people, these artists are the best wingmen a gal could ask for.
I grew up watching artists in my family create beautiful things, and throughout my life I’ve tried to do the same. I’ve taken a stab at photography, painting, drawing…you name it. But I’ve learned that my artistic skills lie in having an eye for beauty (both in the obvious AND the unexpected) and being able to pair art with the person or with the space. I find that curating beauty for someone’s home can be as important as the creation itself. After all, what good is a masterpiece if it can’t be enjoyed?
So that’s what I’ve set out to do for you! I hope to help you find pieces that inspire you and bring joy and depth to your home. Whether you’re looking for a consultation (in-person or virtual), or you’re just here to peruse the original and unique pieces from artists I love and admire, come on in! And please let me know what I can do to help you find your love of art too!
The Untrained Edit began as an idea on paper, a concept about putting more art into the world. But it lacked the essentials: a who, where, and how. It also lacked a trained artist, art dealer, gallerist, or interior designer. However, in 2021, after years of dreaming and wishing and being scared of the unknown, Caleigh Parsons decided that The Untrained Edit would be an online art gallery featuring emerging and established artists from around the southeastern United States and beyond. Her lifelong love for local art empowered her the experience needed to get people's attention. Her vulnerability, coupled with her passion for the arts community, helped to establish her mission: to make art less intimidating.
Within a month of opening the "doors" to the gallery, The Untrained Edit added a brick-and-mortar studio in Dothan, AL. There, artists and other creatives could rent space to create. After two months in their studio, the residents of Untrained Studios moved to a larger space, and, a year later, they moved again to a building triple the size of the original. Joining the original artists and makers of The Untrained Edit are several other women-owned creative businesses. The Untrained Edit has organically become a platform, or hub, for artists, creators, and makers to connect and create. And it's also a place for the entire community to collect art, connect with each other, and create their own original pieces of art.
